Widow Maker turkey calls are hand crafted, tuned, serial numbered and signed by Craig S. King .  I build my calls one at a time and sell no call that I would not hunt with myself. These calls are built for serious turkey hunters, hunters who want a step up on the competition. Your ears, your friends and other turkey hunters will remark that these calls do not sound like other wild turkey calls you have heard. That is how hunters running them gain a step on their competitors. They don’t sound like the last hunter who talked to that call shy bird! If you want to do that you can buy a call at a local department store.  I build my calls one at a time and sell no call that I would not hunt with myself.

Gobbler Starter
These calls are10 1/14" long and usually made of cedar with a red cedar lid. Call comes with finish, wood-burnt feather, certificate, camouflage bag, chalk and my guarantee of satisfaction or send it back! I call them "Gobbler Starters" because they really put out the sound. They are typically very high pitched and possess excellent qualities that can reproduce all hen talk. They are extremely real sounding with the small talk but could also put a real hen to shame in the cutting department. This is a great call for starting grumpy gobblers that have heard it all before and are ready to start eating.

Sweet Talker"
The "Sweet Talker" creates sounds that are sweeter and truer to actual turkey pitches and tones. Though it can broadcast for locating, it will specialize in finishing ready birds with medium to close calling. Call comes with finish, wood burnt feather, chalk and my guarantee of satisfaction or send it back!
 Sweet Talkers work them in close for the kill!

These calls are11 1/2" long and made of butternut or walnut with a red cedar lid.
Red Scratcher
These calls are the most responsive friction calls you can carry in your vest. These calls are beautiful boxes, that play easy and have lively, full yelps. I can tune them to be high pitched, young hens or raspy old hens as per customer requirements. These calls have the ability to be very loud or soft for close calling. This call is constructed from aromatic red cedar with maple end blocks. The striker is cherry  with cedar laminated on the backside to match the box. Call comes with finish, wood burnt feather, chalk and my guarantee of satisfaction or send it back!

I use several types of wood for the inlay on the back of the striker, usually they are contrasting woods but I will built to customer specifications. This call will specialize in yelping and cutting. It  also  has a wonderful pleading whine to them. They will reproduce most all hens sounds and start as well as finish a bird. Scratchers are the bread and butter in my vest and would not be caught afield without one in the springtime!
Black Scratcher

I can tune these calls to be young or old hens. They have the same responsive lively yelps but usually with a lower tone. Walnut is a harder wood than cedar and can take a lot of cutting. The striker is cherry with walnut laminated on the backside to match the box.  These calls specialize in yelping and cutting, yet typically they will have a wonderful pleading whine to them. They will reproduce most all hens sounds and start as well as finish a bird. Scratchers are the bread and butter in my vest and would not be caught a field without one in the springtime or fall!

Classic DD Adams Hole Schedule

Special glass designed into to call for less maintenance

 

 In general I make custom calls using materials that customers prefer. This particular call requires a very hard, and season wood for the "POT" as no movement can be tolerated during the construction processes. I have made some from Kiat and Walnut both turning out with good results.

The hole layout is the Classic DD Adams style and the pot is of very similar construction only mine is a wooden as I stated. The dimensions are 4 inches by 1/2 inch. Though I do not wish to go into the specifics of striking materials, I use a Glass over Plexiglas design. I use plexi be cause I can guarantee it will stay where I put it and not come loose and it will generate the reverberation that is required.

Striker materials will vary as I feel each call must be matched to its striker. I prefer hard maple though many materials meet the standard. I use a maple that has come from old school desks were well over 50 years old. If you have a particular type or size striker that you prefer I will do my best to match your design to my call. I would prefer a model to work from, but a good set of detailed drawings will suffice.

This call has a "wild" sound and will do it all from locating in the wind to the softest of putts in the hands of the right caller.
