Ralph is a serious turkey hunter/callmaker
who understands the necessity of a quality call. Lighting Strike Calls are
built for hunters with their needs and quality in mind. Ralph appears in
Earl Mickel's sequel to "Turkey Call Makers Past and Present ~ The Rest of
The Best" page 205. "In 1993, while hunting at Mickel's,
Neil Cost gave me his personal call which is masterful at taking turkeys.
I studied that killing machine an decided I, too, would like to make calls
for myself and my friends." (Mickel, The Rest of The Best, 1999.)
Ralph's calls are made from several
different woods with; Butternut, Sassafras, Cherry, and Cedar being the
favored materials. Though the pitch changes from wood to wood, hens a
crossed the spectrum are achieved and all have a lively, yelp. They all
yelp, cut, cackle and create most all hen sounds and many get a really
nice kee-kee. As well as being collectable, these calls are tools for the
spring woods and can duplicate a hen immediately and exactly in the hands
of a hunter who knows what a turkey sounds like. My advice is that you
should take the call hunting so you can put the meat in the freezer before
you put it in the showcase.
Ralph's Calls will fool a
longbeard!
